Richard LeMone Knight was called from his earthly home on May 19, 2024. He was born to the late Richard Knight, Jr., and Mavis Best Knight on May 11, 1968, in Durham, North Carolina.

Richard graduated from Skyline High School of Dallas Independent School District. While attending East Texas State University (Texas A&M Commerce) he was initiated as a member of the Zeta Tau Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., where he served as the chapter’s President, a member of the Panhellenic Council, and the NAACP. Richard was also a member of the New Birth Gospel Chorale.

He gained insight and expertise in transportation logistics from his work at J. B. Hunt of Texas, Trans-State Lines and USA Trucks in Van Buren, Arkansas. These experiences led him to the position of Chief Operating Officer and Vice President of Knight Waste Services, a family-owned business in Fort Worth, TX. Richard also pursued another professional passion and became a licensed real estate agent.

Richard was active in several organizations including the Rotary Club of Fort Worth where he served as Chair of Awards. He championed the club’s Minority Business Award. His other civic engagements encompassed the Board of the Fort Worth Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce (Vice Chair). the Blue Zone Project, Fort Worth Sister Cities International, and Downtown Fort Worth, Inc. In addition to the aforementioned, Richard was an advocate for many other causes, that included minority businesses and the Women’s Center of Tarrant County to name a few.

Richard was an avid cyclist, enjoyed various activities, took great pride in his family, and loved participating in family gatherings and events. He was outgoing and always had time for others whether it meant listening to their problems, providing advice or mentoring. His smile and easy demeanor made him approachable and humble.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Richard Knight, Jr., his grandparents Richard and Freddie Miller Knight, Fletcher and Mattie Whitley Best, and his nephew, Avery Richard Knight. Those remembering him with love and affection are his children, Bryttnee Knight, Phyllicia Knight, Richard Rashaud Knight (Brittney), and Destiny Knight (Jeremy). Also, his loving mother, Mavis Best Knight, his brothers, Marcus Knight (Tengemana), and Nolan Knight. Richard’s grandchildren: Paris, Zariah, Morgan, Ezekiel, Torihn, Zorah, Terrell and Astraea. His nieces, Sanaa, Mia and Christian Knight, his nephew Abram Knight, and his aunt Barbara Best Nichols. He also leaves a devoted cousin, Dayna Daniely, a very special friend Ekua Anyanful and a host of friends and colleagues.
