Baseball, a sport absent at Tennessee State for over 30 years, is reportedly returning.
President Glenda Glover and athletic director Mikki Allen confirmed to The Tennesseean that the sport will be back at the HBCU between 2025 and 2028.
The newspaper also reported that the school will add women’s soccer, swimming, and diving to remain Title IX compliant.
Tennessee State last had a baseball team in 1993, but it was shut down due to funding issues.
The move comes two years after current Tennessee State football coach Eddie George supported an effort by Nashville-based Music City Baseball for the school to construct a baseball stadium on the Nashville campus with the hopes of attracting a professional baseball team to the area.
It had long been rumored that Nashville would be one of several possible MLB expansion destinations. The Chicago White Sox ownership most recently expressed interest in moving the franchise to the city.
