FORT WORTH, TX – Jubilee Theatre – prestigiously known as Fort Worth’s premiere Black theatre — is assuring, with Juneteenth observing its second year as an official national holiday, that they and their loyal followers will not be left out.

Freedom Music Festival

Jubilee’s inaugural Freedom Music Festival (FMF) will take place June 19th, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. on the Sundance Square Plaza in downtown Fort Worth.

Sponsored by the Chase Bank’s Advancing Black Pathways Initiative and Sundance Square, the event is free and open to the public.

FMF will feature internationally recognized jazz saxophonist Tom Braxton, Tarrant County’s Phunk Drs and other outstanding local and regional artists who will perform all through the night with Rock, Blues, Jazz and R&B entertainment.

“We are excited about the upcoming opportunities to expand our presence in the Sundance Square community,” states Christie Howard, Managing Director of Jubilee. “Increased accessibility to cultural arts is the cornerstone of the rich downtown environment. We invite all to join us.”

“We are so excited about partnering with Jubilee Theatre on this highly meaningful event,” said Monique Winfree, Vice President and Fort Worth Community Manager for JPMorgan Chase & Co. “Collaborating our Black Pathways Initiative with this important national holiday that celebrates freedom and Fort Worth’s premiere theatre that creatively gives voice to the African American experience is such a perfect match.”

Freddie Jackson

Since 1985 singer Freddie Jackson has recorded a string of pop hits, his romantic ballads especially capturing the hearts of female listeners. His debut album, Rock Me Tonight, was the number-one soul album for sixteen straight weeks, and his second LP, Just Like the First Time, also went platinum. A child soloist, the singer sometimes moved the congregation to tears–learning early how to captivate an audience.

Later discovered by singer Melba Moore while performing in a New York nightclub, Jackson toured with her as a back-up vocalist in the mid-1980s, his cameo solos sparking the interest of industry heavyweights and audiences alike. As a solo artist, Jackson has enjoyed consistent success with best-selling recordings and sold-out concerts (often showcasing the work of rising young songwriters), his polished presentation and pure tones appealing to diverse audiences.

Braxton

Braxton, a multiple Billboard-hit-charting saxophonist and Amazon.com #1 selling smooth jazz artist, has exhilarated audiences with his charismatic and melodic sound for two decades, performing as a headliner at jazz festivals all over the country and around the world. He has spanned the globe, playing at musical events such as Algarve Smooth Jazz Festival in Portugal, the Stanbic Jazz Festival in Ghana, the Smooth Jazz Europe Festival in the Netherlands and the Nile Gold Jazz Safari in Uganda, along with performing at the Smooth Jazz Cruise for the past 12 years.

His current highly demanded album is entitled “Lookin’ Up.”

The Phunk Drs also serve as Jubilee Theatre’s house band. They were featured in December 2021, in “A Phunk Drs’ Christmas.”
