DeSoto Independent School District hosted a COVID-friendly early signing day for four student-athletes and their families at the DHS Athletic Fieldhouse on Wednesday, November 11.
These four track stars signed athletic, full-ride, scholarship-based commitments to the universities at which they will continue their athletic pursuits while also working towards college degrees.
“This is an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of our student-athletes and their families as they sign athletic scholarships to compete at some of the nation’s top universities—a testament to the caliber of athletic and academic experiences offered to DeSoto ISD scholars,” said DeSoto ISD Athletic Director Larry Davis.
The following DeSoto High School track student-athletes made commitments by signing their National Letters of Intent:
Mia Abraham University of Illinois
Lacie Deboskie Florida A&M University
Logan Neely University of Illinois
Jalaysi’ya Smith TO BE DISCLOSED
“I am so proud of these ladies and all they have accomplished in spite of the interruptions of a world-wide pandemic,” stated Hall of Fame Head Track Coach June Villers. “They are all such leaders, I expect they will be captains of their teams. Even with limited meets their junior year, their talent showed through so the coaches could see what they are all about.”
2021 Class President Mia Abraham explained “When you put in the work and stay persistent and stay consistent, Coach Villers will put you on the best path possible!”
Beaming with pride, parents removed masks for photos with their daughters, laughing as they were waived away for solo photos. Indicative of the times, one mother had set up a zoom session to share with family members who could not be present.
DeSoto ISD congratulates these student athletes as they soar into their very bright futures!
