September is Hispanic Heritage Month and Dallas Arboretum is celebrating the culture.
On September 12 from 10 am to 4 pm, attendees will be in for a big treat with a fashion show, a cooking class to make tamales and 23 vendors of food and art.
There will also be live music being played by Havana NRG who is a known Latin band.
Young ladies, ages 15 and 16, will rock the runway with their Quinceañera dresses. In the Latin community, a Quinceañera is when a girl turns 15 and celebrates her transition from childhood to adulthood. It is a huge celebration, like a wedding or baptism.
“This is a beautiful tradition that ties you to your heritage, ties you to your family, traditions and to your ancestors,” said Marcela Castillo, manager of public events. “Our focus is really on the ladies and their stories.”
This is their third annual Quinceañera fashion show and the organizers want this event to open a line of communication with other Hispanics in the DFW area.
“We want to make sure they know that we’re here all year round and not just for Hispanic Heritage Month,” Castillo said.
