Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett Is Sworn In to 119th Congress

Votes for Congressman Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker of the House

Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett was sworn into the 119th Congress to begin her second term serving the good people of Texas’ 30th Congressional District. She was joined by her mother, Gwen Crockett, her father, Pastor Joseph Crockett, and Texas student LGBTQIA activist Ceci Gonzales, at the ceremony.

“As I begin my second term in Congress, our country faces more uncertainty and chaos than ever before: a second Trump presidency, a Cabinet filled with conspiracy theorists and billionaires, a barely functioning Republican Congress, and Elon Musk running everything behind the scenes,” said Rep. Crockett. “If our republic is going to survive whatever Trump is about to throw at us, we need a strong, united Democratic Caucus who are ready to fight House Republicans’ far-right, anti-worker agenda and hold Donald Trump accountable from Day One. Today, I cast my vote for Congressman Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker of the House to serve as a true bipartisan leader in Congress – because majority or not, House Republicans will need Democratic votes if they want to get anything done in the next two years. Leader Jeffries may not hold the gavel, but Speaker Johnson had better keep him on speed dial if he intends to actually govern in the 119th Congress. Democrats are here to work – the question is, are Republicans?”
