DALLAS — Dallas Mayor Eric L. Johnson and Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker announced a friendly wager ahead of the annual “Iron Skillet” football game between Southern Methodist University and Texas Christian University.
If TCU beats SMU, Mayor Johnson will send the Fort Worth City Council breakfast from Shug’s Bagels. If SMU beats TCU, Mayor Parker will send a meal from Pulido’s Restaurant to Mayor Johnson and the Dallas City Council.
Mayor Johnson tweeted Thursday, “Alright, @MayorMattie, with the #IronSkillet game coming up this Saturday, how about a friendly wager? In the unlikely event that @TCUFootball beats @SMUFB, I will treat you and the Fort Worth City Council to breakfast from Dallas’ own Shug’s Bagels. State YOUR wager and let’s go all in! #GoPonies #PonyUpDallas”
Mayor Parker responded, “That’s right @Johnson4Dallas it’s time for the #IronSkillet game and @TCUFootball is ready to take on @SMUFB. I’m confident the Horned Frogs will keep the Iron Skillet in the 817. If TCU loses, I will treat you and the Dallas City Council to a delicious meal from Pulido’s Restaurant in Fort Worth #GoFrogs”
Mayor Johnson replied, “It’s on, @MayorMattie! Can’t wait to savor tacos from Pulido’s after @SMUFB downs @TCUFootball this weekend! #IronSkillet #GoPonies #PonyUpDallas”
Mayor Johnson and Mayor Parker are also using their friendly wager to spotlight fundraisers for the families of Dallas Police Officer Darron Burks and Fort Worth Police Sergeant Billy Randolph, both of whom were recently killed in the line of duty.

“As we head into the penultimate Battle for the Iron Skillet, I’m excited to raise the stakes with Mayor Parker through a friendly wager,” said Mayor Johnson. “While I’m eager to see the Mustangs reclaim the Iron Skillet for Dallas, I’m even more proud to use this opportunity to support the families of fallen heroes in both of our cities.”
The SMU Mustangs will play the TCU Horned Frogs on Saturday, September 21, at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas at 4:00 p.m. C.T.
