Mrs. Barbara Faye Jackson-Palmer, 84, passed away surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Dallas Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas. She was born on December 7, 1938, in Arp, Texas to the union of the late Mr. Percy and Fredzora Jackson, Sr. Barbara attended Kilgore Colored Schools in Kilgore, TX and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Flint, MI for several years until she relocated back home to Texas and began attending Cornerstone Baptist Church in Arlington, TX until her health failed. She was an employee of the dining staff at Kilgore College Cafeteria in Kilgore for several years until she relocated to Flint. She returned to Texas in 2015 until her peaceful transition. She relished spending quality time with all of her children and grandchildren. She adored her mother, Mrs. Fredzora Jackson and all of the Jackson Family. Mrs. Barbara accepted Christ early and was a member of Spring Chapel AME Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, traveling, watching football and basketball and attending church services. During the summers, she enjoyed teaching Vacation Bible School at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. She also loved listening to gospel music, especially her favorite, Shirley Caesar.
Mrs. Palmer leaves to cherish in her memory, seven children; Rita Faye Garrett, Vanessa Kay Hazelwood (Rodney) and Sheila Ann Wade all of Grand Prairie, TX, Steven Dale Palmer of Flint, MI, Yolanda Denise Palmer, Grand Prairie, TX and Melanie LaShaun Jones (Anthony) of Flint, MI and loving niece, Marcia Sweet of Red Oak, TX, twelve grandchildren; Charity, Natasha (Karl), Angel, De’Nisha, Da Shana, Amelia (Steven), Moniqueka (Leroy) , Jermaine (Diana), Jared, Zaria, Lil’ Tony and Anaia along with 15 great-grandchildren, Devin H., Devin W., Shakana, Maurice, Kaylee, Amiya, Alani, Jalen, Aniston, Kaleb, Kaiden, Mylen, Adolphio, Carter Jackson and Harrison D. Wayne, surviving sisters; Mrs. Oleta Bosley of Houston, TX and Mrs. Dorothy Hart of Los Angeles, CA and sister-in-law, Mrs. Mollie Jackson of Tyler, TX and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Malvis Palmer, mother-in-law, Symonia Palmer, son, Melvin Dewayne Palmer, her parents, Percy and Fredzora Jackson, Sr. and sisters, Maxine Bowie, Annie Lee Gilliam, Cora Dunn and Lottie Batts and brothers; Finas Jackson, Fennis Jackson and Percy Jackson, Jr.
The entire family would like to express gratitude and appreciation to the medical teams and support staff at Texas Presbyterian and Dallas Methodist hospitals and to the dedicated and loving caregivers who provided an unmatched level of care; Ms. Montena Rider, Mrs. Betty Fowler and Ms. Onaka Cross. We especially want to thank niece, Ms. Jocelyn Smith, who attentively provided special medical care during her numerous hospital stays. A special thank you to granddaughter, Natasha Nolly for her informative nursing care, huge thank you great-nephew, Cameron Sweet for his expertise in capturing memories through his artistic talent and there aren’t enough words to acknowledge daughter, Yolanda Denise Palmer who resiliently advocated for her health, ensured the best care was sourced and dedicated her life to caring for her.
