Update on Temporary Inclement Weather Shelters

The Office of Homeless Solutions (OHS) will not open the Fair Park consolidated Temporary Inclement Weather Shelter (TIWS) as anticipated. OHS activated the TIWS program Thursday, Dec. 22. The primary TIWS is located at 2929 S. Hickory St., operated by Austin Street Center. Additionally, Oak Lawn United Methodist Church (UMC) at 3014 Oak Lawn Ave. remains open. The J. Erik Jonsson Central Library at 1515 Young St. was opened Friday, December 23 as an additional TIWS.

It was anticipated that maximum capacity of existing TIWS space would be reached but the data does not support the capacity overage trigger to open Fair Park. It is anticipated that all TIWS  will remain open through Monday, December 26. OHS will monitor the weather daily. For the latest please visit bit.ly/OHSTIWS
