The City of Dallas is stepping up to help with renters during COVID by launching a plan, the CARES Act Coronavirus Relief Fund Emergency Short Term Rental Assistance program.
The purpose of the program is to help individuals who need short-term rental assistance that is an emergency. The program will be in full effect in the next couple of weeks for locals to apply. The Department of Housing and Revitalization allocated $6 million to the local nonprofits and DHA. Also, there will be $4.5 million on which the DHA will monitor and $1.5 million that will be spread out to nonprofit groups within Dallas, based on their criteria.
Many partners and nonprofits came on board to get the program off the ground; Housing Solutions for North Texas, Human Rights Initiative, Refugee Services of Texas, Voice of Hope and the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas collaborative.
