Great turn-out for African American Leadership Institute

Meeting in person for the first time since COVID 19 began in 2020, the African American Leadership Institute’s (AALI) Summit provided a robust agenda filled with panelists and speakers tackling pertinent issues on Friday and Saturday. At the two-day Fall Policy Summit held at Paul Quinn College, African American leaders and community stakeholders examined critical issues impacting African Americans. Founded by Sen. Royce West, State Rep. Toni Rose, Dallas City Councilmen Tennell Atkins and Casey Thomas; the institute was designed to bring African American elected officials together to discuss policy issues with the community and establish legislative priorities for our cities, schools, state and federal governmental bodies. Key focus areas are chaired by a local elected official:
  • Education – State Board of Education Board Trustee Aichia Davis
  • Healthcare – State Representative Toni Rose
  • Civic Engagement, Dallas City Councilmember Casey Thomas
  • Economic Development, Chaired by State Senator Royce West
  • Criminal Justice, Dallas City Councilmember Tennell Atkins
