Beto O’Rourke Continues People of Texas Campaign with a Focus on Creating a State That is Affordable for Everyone

O’Rourke will lay out his vision for making the state a place that every Texan can afford to live in, work in, raise their kids in and be healthy in

Beto O’Rourke

Texas – Beto O’Rourke announced today that he will continue his People of Texas Campaign in May by hosting a series of town halls focused on creating a state that is affordable for every Texan. O’Rourke is set to hold five town halls as he brings people together around a positive, popular and unifying vision for a state that every Texan can afford to live in, work in, raise their kids in and be healthy in.

Under Greg Abbott’s failed leadership, Texas has become unaffordable for too many. Property taxes have skyrocketed by $20 billion since he took office. His latest political stunt at the border also drove up inflation while killing jobs, crushing businesses, and costing Texas more than $4.2 billion. This followed Abbott’s grid failure that resulted in Texans paying an average of $42 more per month on their utility bills for the coming decades.

While Abbott is focused on his own political ambitions and enriching his wealthiest donors at the expense of Texans, Beto is focused on creating a Texas that everyone can afford to thrive in. O’Rourke will kick off the month with a town hall in Boerne on Friday before holding additional public town halls in Pearland, Bastrop, Waco and Richardson.

The following events are public and open to the media:

The People of Texas Campaign has been taking O’Rourke back to every part of the state. In the two months since O’Rourke won the Democratic primary, he has held more than 30 events focused on jobs, public education, and health care.

This includes public town halls in Dallas, College Station, Houston, Port Arthur, Nacogdoches, Victoria, Johnson City, Austin, Weatherford, Olney, Vernon, Childress, Canadian, Dalhart, Amarillo, Lubbock, San Angelo, El Paso, Temple, Del Rio, Laredo, McAllen, Bonham, Sherman, Irving, New Braunfels, Missouri City and Livingston.

Each event has been focused on how the people of Texas can overcome the current divisions and unite around the popular things that Texans want to accomplish together: creating great jobs that pay a living wage, fully funding schools while having the backs of teachers, expanding Medicaid so more people can see a doctor and afford their prescriptions, and ensuring that everyone can live to their full potential.

The statewide drive is also highlighting how Abbott has spent the past seven years serving his own interests and those of his corporate donors while repeatedly leaving the people of Texas behind.

His obsessive focus on an extreme, radical agenda that divides, attacks, and hurts the people of Texas has come at the direct expense of this state’s schools, health, workers, families, and communities.
