Dallas County reported 60 more COVID-19 deaths and 9,249 new coronavirus cases in the last week. The seven-day case total is less than half of the 19,610 new cases reported in the previous week, part of a downward trend being seen across the North Texas region.
In a written statement, County Judge Clay Jenkins said people should continue to get vaccinated and boosted against the disease, as the next surge of cases is likely to be fueled by the omicron variant.
Of the new cases, 7,292 were confirmed and 1,957 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s overall case total to 554,778, including 458,387 confirmed and 96,391 probable. The death toll is 5,826.
The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 2,061. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 3,960.
The county reported that 693 people were hospitalized with the virus. A week ago, there were 1,066 people hospitalized, according to county data.
According to the state, 1,786,529 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 1,524,333 — 62% of the county’s population 5 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Texas
The state reported 140,467 more cases in the last week — a roughly 40% decrease from the previous seven-day period. The number included 108,446 confirmed cases and 32,021 probable cases.
Texas also reported 1,351 COVID-19 deaths over the last week, raising its toll to 79,711.
The state’s case total is now 6,395,334, including 5,319,208 confirmed and 1,076,126 probable.
The average number of new daily cases in the state for the last two weeks is 26,937. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 58,867.
COVID-19 hospitalizations also are on a downward trend across the state.
As of Tuesday, there were a total of 9,529 COVID-19 hospitalizations in the state, including 2,628 in North Texas. A week earlier, 12,156 people across the state were hospitalized with the virus, including 3,590 in North Texas.
According to the state, 20,120,445 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 17,021,961 — 63.1% of the state’s population 5 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Tarrant County
Tarrant County reported 78 deaths and 15,877 cases in the last week. In the previous seven-day period, 30,306 cases were reported.
Of the new cases, 12,146 were confirmed and 3,731 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 544,523, including 443,388 confirmed and 101,135 probable. The death toll is 5,374.
The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 3,299. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 5,440.
The county reported that 837 people were hospitalized with the virus.
According to the state, 1,321,627 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 1,156,613 — 59.5% of the county’s population 5 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Collin County
The state added 31 deaths and 4,803 cases to Collin County’s totals in the last week. In the previous seven-day period, 7,800 cases were reported.
Of the new cases, 3,350 were confirmed and 1,453 were probable. There are now 197,957 total cases in Collin County, including 152,479 confirmed and 45,478 probable. The death toll is 1,350.
The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 900. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 1,873.
The county reported that 398 people were hospitalized with the virus.
According to the state, 775,138 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 680,268 — 70.6% of the county’s population 5 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Denton County
Denton County reported two deaths and 5,390 cases in the last week. In the previous seven-day period, 9,651 cases were reported.
The numbers bring the county’s case total to 170,328, including 119,971 confirmed and 50,357 probable. The death toll is 779.
The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 1,074. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 2,346.
The county reported that 163 people were hospitalized with the virus.
According to the state, 605,540 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 536,800 — 64.7% of the county’s population 5 and older — are fully vaccinated.
