Tuskegee University has launched a new electronic Visitor Access credential designed to enhance and expedite the campus visitor experience while strengthening visitor management, campus safety, and administrative efficiency.
“The safety of our students and every visitor to our campus remains a high priority and this technology advancement is another step we are taking to increase rigor around security in ways that provide a warm and more seamless welcome to Mother Tuskegee,” said Dr. Mark A. Brown, president and CEO.
The roll-out will begin on Monday, Sept. 14 providing approved parents and guardians with a reusable electronic credential featuring a semester-specific QR code that can be stored on a smartphone or printed for convenient use throughout the academic term. Rather than completing the full visitor registration process during each campus visit, registered family members can present their credential for quick electronic verification at campus entry points.
Electronic credentials will also soon be made available to other Tuskegee visitors including the Board of Trustees and active Eminent Associates, members of Tuskegee’s society of donors.
“Our goal is to create a more welcoming and convenient experience for families while delivering on Tuskegee’s commitment to safety, accountability, and operational excellence,” said Darrius Jones, Tuskegee University Chief of Police. “This solution allows parents and guardians to visit campus more efficiently while providing the institution with a secure and verifiable visitor management process.”
He added that while the credential simplifies access for approved visitors, it also enhances the university’s ability to manage and verify campus visitors.
There will be a two-step process to activate this new protocol.
Students will be notified on Sept. 14 informing them that they are eligible to register up to two parents or guardians for visitor access for this semester. The communication will provide detailed instructions to complete registration.
Once a student registers their parent or guardian information, the registered person will receive an email confirming their registration. This communication will include a unique QR code and instructions for presenting that code when entering campus this semester.
Access for future semesters will be granted in advance following this launch.
“Each semester these credentials will be generated, authenticated and maintained through our Visitor Management System,” said Chief Jones. “This process creates a documented link between each student sponsor, the registered parent or guardian, the issued credential, and the Tuskegee University Police Department. We look forward to providing a more predictable experience for students and their parents or guardians while enhancing our ability to manage and verify visitors,” he said.
