Virginia Ann Gardner, affectionately known by many as “Needa,” was born on May 4, 1940, in Dallas, Texas, to loving parents A.D. Vinson Reynolds and Willie Beatrice Nesbitt. She was the youngest of her mother’s children and was a cherished daughter, sister, mother, aunt, and friend whose life touched many people throughout the years.
Virginia received her early education through Dallas ISD before completing her education in San Angelo, Texas. From an early age, Virginia was introduced to the love and teachings of Christ. Her faith became an important part of who she was, and she remained devoted to God throughout her life. She was a faithful and longtime member of Brenham Church of Christ, where she found fellowship, strength, and spiritual guidance.
On October 25, 1959, Virginia was blessed with the birth of her beloved son, Ray Albert Lewis Jr. Becoming a mother was one of the greatest blessings of her life. Her love for Ray was evident in the way she cared for him.
Virginia was also a woman who believed in hard work, service, and caring for others. She pursued a career in nursing; it was something she genuinely loved. She dedicated many years of her life to caring for others and serving her community. Virginia worked in various hospitals throughout Dallas, Texas, and Brenham, Texas, where she continued her career in nursing for many years. She continued doing what she loved until she retired from nursing.
Virginia met Charlie Gardner, and the two were joined in marriage. They shared a life together until his passing in 1996.
Her family was an important part of her life, and she created memories that will continue to be treasured by the generations to come. Her presence brought comfort, love, and familiarity to those around her.
Virginia was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, 3 sisters, and 1 brother.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving son, Ray Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends. Virginia’s life was one of faith, love, and perseverance. The love, kindness, lessons, and memories she gave will remain in the hearts of those who knew her. We give thanks for the years God allowed her to walk among us. She will forever be in our hearts.
