On July 13 at 12:30 p.m. (Central) “Dallas Love Field’s Lead with Love” new live show and podcast features three distinguished guests to discuss the city’s Latino Cultural Center and its impact on the arts and Latino artists. Veletta Forsythe Lill, founding executive director of the Dallas Arts District, joins Benjamin Espino, general manager of the Latino Cultural Center, and Viola Delgado, studio and public artist, to talk about the impact that the Latino Cultural Center has had on the Latino arts community and the growth of Latina artists.
According to Lill who has championed the arts in Dallas, “The Latino Cultural Center, like the community of Latinx artists, continues to grow, and will open a second phase next year. We will talk about the center’s growth structurally and artistically – the personal, professional and critical impact of Dallas’ growing community of diverse artists and organizations.”
Designed by internationally recognized architect, Ricardo Legorreta, the Latino Cultural Center opened its doors in 2003 as a private/public partnership between the City of Dallas and its civic, community, and philanthropic leadership. Located in a flourishing neighborhood the LCC is part of the Texas designated Deep Ellum Cultural District. In December 2020, The Dallas Morning News architecture critic Mark Lamster named the center one of the Top 10 buildings of the last 40 years: “[the] Latino Cultural Center is one of the most visually arresting structures in the city, a crayon-hued work of dramatic forms and striking shadows.” Since its opening it has hosted over 600,000 guests, numerous exhibitions and is now home to two resident Latinx theater companies.
