A 22-year-old DeSoto man has been indicted on a murder charge in connection with the shooting of a man he mistakenly believed killed his younger brother, according to authorities.

A Dallas County grand jury handed up the indictment of Norman Christopher Collier on Wednesday, court records show.

He was arrested after Kolby Marquise Graham, 20, was shot in the head April 25 at a balloon release ceremony for Collier’s younger brother, Camran Kashawn Collier.

Camran Collier, a junior Olympic boxer, waskilled in a car in DeSoto three days before.

DeSoto police said his brother mistakenly believed Graham murdered his younger brother after social media posts alleged he was to blame.

Graham, who lived in Lancaster, died several days after he was shot at the memorial balloon release. His aunt, Marise Wafer, said he’d been at the ceremony because he was best friends with Camran Collier and wanted to honor him.

“We’re angry that it happened to an innocent kid,” she said in April. “That’s what hurts the most, that’s what we’re so angry about.”

A few weeks after Graham’s death, a 16-year-old was taken into custody in connection with Camran Collier’s slaying. Police suspect the teenager had been trying to rob the 19-year-old boxing star, who was also a member of the Marine Corps Reserve.

Norman Collier remained in custody Wednesday with bail set at $1 million. His attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
