DALLAS – Vincent L. Hall’s story is one that most hometown papers would love to share with readers – a true “homeboy” grows up taking advantage of every opportunity his community has to offer and then dedicating himself to nurturing the place that helped him to become who he is today.
Hall is like the many elders in his community who he looked up to when he grew up in the hallowed streets of South Dallas proper and South Oak Cliff. He loves being a mentor and example to young men and women in this community who are willing to fight for neighbors they don’t even know.
It’s his humble journey that makes a recent vote in his favor all the more historic and noteworthy. More than six decades ago, Hall was born at Parkland Hospital. It’s been said he came out making noise and has never stopped using his voice to make a difference.
He’s lifting that voice on Sunday mornings in the church choir at Friendship-West Baptist Church and that same voice is helping to make a system better for millions of Dallas County residents.
Fueled by a unanimous vote, Hall was recently elected chairman of the Parkland Health Board of Managers.
It’s extremely gratifying to be chosen by such a professional and passionate peer group,” said Hall. “It is doubly humbling to realize that I am the first person ever born in Parkland to lead this board.”
The proud grandfather has a vision for Parkland that includes providing for the locked down and left out, and making sure he leaves it in a better place.
“Parkland Hospital will continue to be the premier hospital in the United States, and one of the last that offer a lifeline and opportunities to its patients, its employees, and all who use the services,” said Hall. “We will be that healthcare institution that goes above and beyond to bring first class services and professional professionalism to our demographic.”
In a release provided by Parkland, Hall’s impressive portfolio was presented. Named to the Parkland Board in April 2023, he was recently reappointed to the DFW International Airport Board by the Dallas City Council.
A graduate of Ohio University in Athens with a Bachelor of Specialized Studies, Hall retired from Southwestern Bell/AT&T as a General Manager in the telecommunications industry and was responsible for sales and revenue generation. He is most proud that he fostered mutually beneficial working partnership with organized labor and the company throughout his tenure.
Hall is in the 24th year of his second career, serving as General Manager to Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price’s Road and Bridge District Three. In addition, he is a member of the Adjunct Faculty at Dallas College, a valued editorial board member of Texas Metro News, and a licensed real estate agent.
He has gained experience with various boards and civic affiliations including serving as the Chairman of Dallas Telco Credit Union, Dallas Weekly columnist, NIA Kids for the Performing Arts – Chairman 2005, United Way Loaned Executive Program, Big Brothers/Big Sisters Metropolitan Dallas, City of Dallas MLK Center Advisory Board, Dallas Police Chief’s Community Advisory Committee and the Adult Rehab Ministry (ARM).
But the vocation that he loves most is being father to Erinn, Alison and Hailee and “G-Pop”to three wonderful grandchildren.
Others also elected to two-year terms are J. Yasmin Simon, JD, as vice chair, and Farida Minner, RN, as secretary.
