Celebrating Life Foundation Honors Survivors and Founder Sylvia Powers in a Magical Milestone Celebration

Sylvia Powers was deeply moved and overcome with joy by the outpouring of support from
survivors and those committed to the mission of the Celebrating Life Foundation

On a beautiful evening filled with gratitude, love, and quiet joy, the Celebrating Life Foundation gathered breast cancer survivors and close supporters for a truly special occasion—an intimate celebration honoring survivors while commemorating the 65thbirthday of founder Sylvia Powers.

Magician Kendal Krane mesmerized guests with his captivating
magical tricks.

Held on historic Main Street at the charming Willow Cottage in Grapevine, the evening felt nothing short of magical. Soft lighting, thoughtful details, and heartfelt conversations transformed the cottage into a sanctuary of reflection and celebration, beautifully mirroring the spirit of the foundation Sylvia founded nearly three decades ago.

In conjunction with the theme “Let the Magic Begin,” guests were treated to an enchanting performance by magician Kendal Kane, while psalmist Virlinda Stanton filled the room with soulful sounds that deeply touched the atmosphere and the hearts of those in attendance.

“Everything about the evening was uplifting and encouraging,” said breast cancer survivor Chastity Gulley.

For Sylvia Powers, the evening was never about spotlight or accolade but about community. As founder and executive director of Celebrating Life Foundation, Powers has dedicated her life to walking alongside breast cancer survivors, particularly those families navigating treatment, financial hardship, and emotional recovery. Her 65th birthday became an opportunity to turn gratitude outward, honoring the resilience of survivors and the village that continues to surround them with care.

“There is no other word but magical as I reflect on spending almost half of my life dedicated to supporting those dealing with breast cancer,” said Powers. “This year alone has been amazing. We assisted more than 110 breast cancer survivors going through treatment with up to $1,000 in financial assistance, transportation, and meals. We have also been blessed with incredible partnerships with the United Breast Cancer Foundation, Making Chemo Bearable, and other local nonprofits.”

The organization also closed the year on a high note with a $10,000 donation from LexisNexis, designated to support its upcoming Chemo Day event scheduled for June.

During the celebration, Celebrating Life Foundation President,
Gavin Nichols, reflected on and highlighted the organization’s
many accomplishments throughout 2025.

The setting itself added to the warmth of the gathering. Nestled along Grapevine’s beloved Main Street, Willow Cottage offered an atmosphere of timeless charm that invited guests to slow down, connect, and truly be present. Laughter mingled with tears of gratitude as survivors were celebrated not only for what they endured, but for who they are.

In honoring Sylvia Powers, the evening also honored a legacy of service rooted in faith, compassion, and unwavering commitment. Her vision has remained steadfast: to ensure that no breast cancer survivor walks alone. Looking ahead, the Celebrating Life Foundation will mark its 30th anniversary with a milestone celebration on March 7 at the African American Museum. Fittingly, the theme for the occasion will be “Where the Magic Begins.”
