Lancaster resident Shabranda Mathis, has built her career around helping students succeed and teachers grow. Mathis has more than 25 years in education, and now serves as principal of Whitney M. Young Jr. Elementary School in Dallas ISD. A member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Mathis has worked as a math teacher, district instructional coach and assistant principal. She earned her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies and her master’s degree in educational administration from Prairie View A&M University. Under her leadership, Whitney M. Young Jr. Elementary improved from F rating to A rating in 2025. Mathis was also named Dallas ISD Region II Principal of the Year for 2025-26, and she was honored by the Elite News.
