“For every moral action, there exists an immoral action laden with consequentialism!” John Johnson 12/04/24
America has long espoused a selective and often contradictory morality. It is crucial for voters to scrutinize the immorality within President-elect Trump’s agenda, including Project 2025. By understanding the relationship between morality, immorality, and consequentialism—a philosophy that evaluates actions based on their outcomes—voters can better assess whether policies serve the greater good.
For example, policies like a national abortion ban, tax cuts for the wealthy, mass deportations, and tariffs on imports can be analyzed through this lens. Tariffs on Mexico and China, while aiming to reduce drug flow and illegal immigration, could raise consumer costs and cause economic hardship. Similarly, forcing rape victims to bear children highlights the inhumanity of certain “pro-life” moral positions.
Using the framework of morality, immorality, and consequentialism empowers voters to critically evaluate political actions and their broader impact. This approach ensures decisions align with the greater good, fostering a more thoughtful and ethical society.
