The season is not yet over for Alabama A&M, Texas Southern, Norfolk State and Bethune-Cookman men’s basketball teams.
Despite missing out on the NCAA tournament and NIT, the HBCU programs accepted invitations to participate in the College Insider Tournament.
Alabama A&M will visit Austin Peay at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The Govs are 2-0 in the all-time series against the Bulldogs, winning 67-47 in Clarksville, Tenn., in 2017 and 73-61 in Huntsville, Ala., in 2018.
Alabama A&M (11-22) reached the Southwestern Athletic Conference semifinals for the second straight year. The Bulldogs knocked off the second seed in the tournament, Alcorn State, before falling in the semifinals to third seed Texas Southern.
Austin Peay (19-15) fell just short, a 94-91 loss to Stetson in the Atlantic Sun Championship game on March 10.
Bethune-Cookman will also be part of the tournament this week, though the Wildcats have yet to be assigned an opponent. It marks the second postseason berth for the Wildcats in program history and the first since 2011, when B-CU participated in the NIT.
Texas Southern will travel to Tarleton State for its first-round contest on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Tigers are in the CIT for the second time since 2019 and in the postseason overall for the seventh straight year.
Norfolk State, the regular season MEAC champions, will be in the 16-team field as well.
