Transportation shouldn’t prevent voters from heading to the polls on Nov. 3, and Dallas Area Rapid Transit is helping bridge the gap.
On Election Day, DART will offer free rides to passengers with valid government IDs or voter registration cards on all transit options. Voters in Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis and Rockwall counties will have complimentary access to buses, light rail, Dallas Streetcar, Silver Line, Trinity Railway Express paratransit and GoLink within its service areas.
“Transportation shouldn’t be a barrier for you accessing your right to vote,” said Erin Myers, vice president of public relations for DART.
Riders must use the promotional code “VOTENOV3” on the GoPass app to redeem a complimentary Adult Day Pass, which will provide unlimited rides on all fixed bus and rail routes.
For the microtransit GoLink service, riders can get three round trips or six one-way fares for free on Election Day using the same code.
Paratransit users must reserve their rides the day before by calling 214-515-7272 to book their trip.
“Tell the agent you are going to a polling location and they will mark your round trip as free fare,” Myers said.
Although the polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., free rides will be available from when service begins until the end of the day, Myers said. Users should check their app schedule for the most current operating hours.
DART encourages voters in its service area to use the Trip Planner feature on its website to find the nearest polling place and a way to utilize public transportation to get there. Myers said the transit authority’s customer service team is prepared to help voters book rides and navigate their website.
