Gloria Jean Higgins was born on September 4, 1946, and passed away on August 24, 2026. She will be remembered as a loving woman whose life was centered on faith, family, hard work, and caring for others.
Gloria was known for her warm and welcoming spirit. She was funny, caring, hardworking, supportive, reliable, generous, and loving. She never met a stranger and loved to talk, leaving a lasting impression on the many people whose lives she touched. A Christian woman, she carried herself with compassion and kindness, and her love for her family and people was at the heart of who she was.
She worked as a candy maker for Acme Candy Company and G.S. Foods, bringing dedication and a strong work ethic to her career. Outside of work, Gloria found joy in shopping and cooking, and she especially enjoyed watching sports. She was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, the Texas Rangers, and the Dallas Mavericks. She also enjoyed keeping up with Channel 4 News, 20/20, 48 Hours, and BET. These everyday pleasures reflected a woman who delighted in life and in the things that brought her comfort and happiness.
Among Gloria’s proudest accomplishments was her family. Being a mother and grandmother meant the world to her, and she treasured the bonds she shared with those she loved most.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Gloria Pierson; her sons, Hiawatha Higgins and Chris Higgins; her daughter, Pernilla Turner; and her step-sons, Alonzo Higgins and James Higgins, Jr. She is also lovingly remembered by Gloria Pierson, Hiawatha Higgins, Chris Higgins, and Pernilla Turner and their children, as well as by Alonzo Higgins and James Higgins, Jr. Her family was the great joy of her life, and the love she gave them will remain a lasting gift.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, James Higgins; her father, Walter Yancy; her mother, Rosie Ballard; Nora Gates, who reared her; her brothers, Alfred and Jimmy and her sister, Faye. Their memories remained part of her life’s story, and now she rests with those who went before her.
A viewing for Gloria Jean Higgins will be held on September 9, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Golden Gate Funeral Home-Dallas, 4155 S. R. L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75224. Funeral services will be held on September 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Golden Gate Funeral Home-Dallas Allene, 4155 S. R. L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75224.
