Dallas-Fort Worth shoppers looking for groceries, household supplies and other everyday items now have another option when they need something delivered quickly.

Walmart has expanded its 30-minute-or-less delivery service across more markets in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, giving eligible customers the option to have certain items delivered in as little as 30 minutes.

According to Walmart Corporate Newsroom, the company announced May 28 that its 30-minute-or-less delivery service was available in 33 U.S. markets. The service allows customers to order groceries, pharmacy items and other everyday essentials for delivery in 30 minutes or less.

A Walmart spokesperson said Dallas-Fort Worth was a good area for the expansion because of the number of Walmart stores in the region and the mix of urban and suburban communities.

“Walmart has a vast store footprint and growing customer demand in Dallas-Fort Worth,” the spokesperson said. “The metroplex also has a nice mix of urban and suburban and is growing very fast, making it an ideal location for us to test and scale new capabilities and technology.”

The service is not available to every customer in the DFW area. Customers can check through the Walmart app to see if their address qualifies. If it does, the Express Delivery option will appear when they shop.

According to the Walmart spokesperson, more than 100,000 eligible items can be ordered through the 30-minute-or-less service. Those items include fresh groceries, pantry staples, baby supplies, cold and flu medicine, household products, pet food, electronics and prescription deliveries.

For Walmart employees, the expansion has also changed how some stores handle daily orders. Anthony López, a Grand Prairie Walmart employee, said his store began offering the service about two months ago.

López said he has noticed an increase in delivery orders since the service became available. “Yes, I’ve noticed I’ve been doing more delivery orders,” he said.

He also said the service can sometimes mean fewer customers physically shopping inside the store. Among the items he sees customers ordering for fast delivery are school supplies.

Several factors determine how quickly an order can reach a customer, including the store’s location, the distance from the store to the customer, driver availability and the size of the order. Walmart uses an algorithm to consider those factors when determining delivery times.

The company also offers other delivery options. Customers can choose Express delivery in one hour or less, On-Demand delivery in as soon as three hours or Scheduled delivery, which allows them to select a delivery window.

Walmart also offers drone delivery from participating stores and has expanded its drone delivery service in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

For DFW shoppers, availability of the 30-minute-or-less service depends on their address. Customers can check the Walmart app to see if the option is available in their area.Kamira LaNay is a 2026 Journalism and Communications graduate of Morgan State University.  She will spend the next year as a Texas Metro News Fellow.
