What do a pioneer child’s dress, the world’s first frozen margarita machine, a Civil War revolver, Tom Landry’s fedora and Mr. Peppermint’s striped suit have in common? They’re all part of Legacy Dallas – A Presentation of Dallas County’s Culture and History, a new permanent exhibit and online educational experience that brings to life the people, places and pivotal moments that transformed Dallas County from a small frontier settlement into one of the nation’s most influential centers of innovation, commerce and culture.
Building upon the mission of the Old Red Museum, Legacy Dallas officially opened Aug. 6 as county officials and supporters gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony beneath the exhibit’s iconic neon-red Pegasus.
Free and open to the public, the exhibit is located on the main entrance level of the Dallas County Records Building in downtown Dallas. A comprehensive digital platform at LegacyDallas.org complements the in-person experience with curated content for history enthusiasts, educators, students and visitors.
