Eddie Lee Jones Jr. was born on September 6, 1940, in Corsicana, Texas, to the late Eddie Jones Sr. and Rozell Jones. From those humble beginnings, he would go on to live a life marked by
service, love, faith, and an unshakeable commitment to family.
He began his service to this country by dedicating several years to the United States Army as a Military Police officer, and that commitment to duty never left him. After his full-time service he transitioned into the civilian workforce, joining Southwestern Bell, and remained devoted to his craft through the company’s evolution into AT&T, from which he proudly retired. But his military calling was not finished. He went on to serve in the National Guard as a Tanker, rising to the distinguished rank of Sergeant — E6 — and retired after more than twenty years of combined
service. He wore that service with quiet pride, and everything it instilled in him — discipline, integrity, and a commitment to showing up — carried into every area of his life.
In 1967, he was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Annie B. Day, who after the ceremony became Annie B. Jones. Together they built a home rooted in love, laughter, and purpose, and to this union four children were born.
He was a provider, a protector, and a pillar of strength for his family. He made sure they were always taken care of, and he never let them forget the value of an education. He would tell
them plainly that without it, life would be an uphill battle, and when report card time came around, he meant every word.
But beneath that firm hand was a heart full of love. He was generous to his core — never
turning away family in need, opening his home, and making sure those he helped got back on their feet. He believed in lifting people up, not just getting by himself.
He also knew how to make you laugh. He had a gift for jokes and pranks, and his presence lit up every room. He cherished time with family and friends, and he made sure those around him
understood that loving and supporting one another was not optional — it was a way of life.
Every summer, he loaded up the family and made the trip down to Alabama, where his wife’s family welcomed him with open arms. To them, he could do no wrong, and that feeling was mutual. He loved them deeply and they loved him right back.
He was equally devoted to his own parents, siblings, and extended family. He stayed in close contact, showed up for the holidays, and made sure those bonds never weakened.
Years later, he answered a higher calling. He gave his life to the church and brought his family right along with him — not a Sunday was missed. What began as faithful attendance grew into Sunday school teaching, then the role of Deacon, then Pastor, and ultimately he was Ordained. He approached the Word of God the same way he approached everything else in life — with full
commitment. He studied diligently and had every biblical reference you could imagine. His faith was not a Sunday habit; it was the foundation of everything he did.
And through it all, he still found time for the things that brought him joy — the gym, a sharp vehicle in the driveway, and the latest gadget or electronic device that caught his eye.
On Thursday, July 9, 2026, Eddie Jones Jr. passed away peacefully at his home, where his long and courageous battle with COPD came to an end after more than five years. Through it all he never wavered in spirit. He stayed positive, continued to pray, and sought natural ways to fight his illness until the very end. He faced his trial with the same quiet strength and faith that
defined his entire life.
He was a soldier, a protector, a dedicated professional, a devoted husband and father, and a faithful servant of God. He gave his best to every role he was called to fill.
