WASHINGTON —  Rep. Crockett released the following statement on Rep. Nancy Mace’s Attack on Minority Caucuses:

“The pattern is clear: they’re determined to fortify every ounce of “pure whiteness” they can and dismantle everything else, all while claiming to be the champions of “equality.”

They started by attacking Black districts — drawing racist lines to remove us from Congress and silence the voices we represent. Apparently, that wasn’t enough for them and now, they want to get rid of all the minority caucuses — the Congressional Black Caucus, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus. Just as the British Colonizers wouldn’t let American Patriots congregate, just like Jim Crow wouldn’t allow Black folks to assemble, now Nancy Mace doesn’t want us to caucus.

Let me be clear: these caucuses were created out of necessity because, for far too long, our communities were denied a voice. Our constituents demanded leaders who would show up, speak up, and fight for their rights.  While no ethnic group is a monolith, there are many shared struggles which require shared strategies.

At a time when families are struggling to make ends meet, we’re in the middle of an unconstitutional war, and ICE is murdering people in broad daylight, “Notice-Me Nancy” has decided that her priority is to attack and seek the dismantling of minority caucuses.

This is a sad and white-supremacy laced attempt to catch headlines and be relevant.  Maybe she feels like picking on trans people didn’t get her the win in SC so this time she will be a proper daughter of the confederacy and instead target people of color praying that she will now earn the support of her party as the nominee to the Senate. Black people, alone, make up 25 percent of the state of South Carolina. I hope they are paying attention to this maniacal behavior.

So let me make this plain: We are not going anywhere and nor is our caucus.”
