‘I appreciate the prayers, but I need somebody to give me a kidney’
SALISBURY, N.C. (WBTV) – Former Salisbury City Council member and Air Force veteran Kenny Hardin said he is fighting for his life and needs a kidney donor.
“I appreciate the prayers, but I need somebody to give me a kidney,” Hardin said.
Hardin is known in his community for helping others — working with at-risk youth, starting an afterschool program, and spending years in public service and healthcare.
Last fall, doctors told him he was in kidney failure and would need a transplant to survive. He said the diagnosis initially left him in disbelief until his health began to change.
Hardin said he has lost more than 40 pounds and struggles with low energy as he waits for a match.
He put his name on multiple donor lists, but more than a year later — and after five rejections — he still has not found a donor.
Hardin and his sons created a website to help spread the word and connect with potential donors.
“Even as sick as I am now, I still answer my phone every day, and I help people every single day,” Hardin said. “So I hope that people will recognize all the good that I have tried to do… and give some good back to me so I can continue giving back to humanity.”
