Lewisville officer who was arrested in Heath on Friday and accused of engaging in a public sex act with a teen has resigned as an internal affairs investigation found he violated policies at his department.

Zacur Vargas, 32, resigned Monday from the Lewisville Police Department as Chief Brook Rollins initiated the officer’s termination following the internal affairs findings, according to a news release from the department.

Vargas’ resignation followed three internal affairs charges against him, including noncompliance with the law, immoral conduct and disregard of public trust, according to the release.

The department announced the internal affairs investigation after Vargas was arrested three days earlier.

On Friday, Vargas was taken into custody by the Heath Department of Public Safety after investigators determined he was engaging in a public sexual act with a 16-year-old, according to the release. He was off duty during the time of the incident.

Vargas was booked into the Rockwall County jail, where he was formally charged with sexual assault of a child, police said.

Jail records show that Vargas was released from jail Saturday after posting a $100,000 bond.
