The National Black Police Association (NBPA) held its annual memorial walk, beginning at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and ending at the African American Museum in Dallas. More than 50 officers from across the country, including Dallas, Chicago, New Orleans, and Nashville, participated, ranging in age from 20 to 86, participated in the half mile walk.
The walk honored fallen officers who served in police departments from 2016 through 2025. Participants recognized each officer by name, paying tribute to their service and sacrifice.
The memorial walk took place during the NBPA’s week-long Educational and Training Conference, a tradition the organization has carried on for 53 years. It brings Black officers together to train, learn, and celebrate their service and connection to the communities they protect.
“We have been training, educating, and fellowshipping. We have had a great time,” said NBPA President Sheldon Smith.
Dallas Police Sergeant Krista Andrews, a 21-year veteran, said, “It means a lot for the Black community to see officers that look like them engaged.”
