OBIT: Dorelia P. Taylor

“To everything there is a season, a time to be born, Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2Dorelia Ella Powell Taylor, the seventh of seven children, was born to the parentage of Bennie M and Harriett Bass Powell in Tabor, Brazos County, Texas, on September 19, 1934.

To everything there is a season – a time to die – Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2a

Dorelia departed this life on May 8, 2025.

She received her formal education in Bryan, Texas, graduating from E.A. Kemp High School, class of 1952. She then attended Wiley College and Paul Quinn College. A retired federal employee, she also worked as a substitute teacher in the Wilmer-Hutchins and Duncanville School Districts.

She professed her faith at the New Bethlehem Baptist Church and later united with the Greater Tabernacle Baptist Church in Bryan, Texas.

Upon moving to Dallas in 1957, Dorelia united with Mt. Horeb Missionary Baptist Church. Her services during her journey included singing in the choir, working in the Missionary Society, Sunday School, program chairperson, singles ministry, church clerk, Board of Directors and in the church library.

Dorelia coordinated the founding of the singles ministry at Mt Horeb in 1997. Through this ministry, she organized and set up a library, yearly food bank drives, and a series of workshops advising senior citizens on community service activities.

She also had a keen interest in genealogy and was very family oriented which was reflected in her dedication to serving as an elder on the Crawford – Kearney – Kurney Family Reunion Committee.

Dorelia is survived by her children Harriett and Michael, along with eleven nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
