U. S. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has announced that she is undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer. Congresswoman Jackson Lee has served in Congress since 1995, representing the 18 congressional district of Texas, which includes most of central Houston. Hailing from Queens, New York, she’s 74 years old and this year in fact you’ll see her name on the ballot in the general election come November. Recently, she ran for mayor of Houston and when unsuccessful returned to run for and win the Democratic primary for her congressional seat, she has held since 1995. She’s a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She served on the Houston city Council and also as a municipal judge. She received her bachelors degree from Yale University and a JD from the University of Virginia school of law. Previously she had breast cancer and was declared cancer free in 2012.
