Senior Pastor Bryan Carter of Concord Church and Reverend Dr. Frederick Douglass Haynes III of Friendship West Baptist Church endorse Sheriff Marian Brown for re-election. Sheriff Brown is in a Democratic Primary runoff election, with early voting beginning Monday, May 20, and Election Day Tuesday, May 28.
“Sheriff Marian Brown’s leadership has not only been exemplary in maintaining positive relationships in our community. Her vision aligns with our hopes for a community-centric policing model that builds trust and breaks down barriers between law enforcement and our communities. We need a leader who understands the importance of growth and investment in our Sheriff’s Office, and Sheriff Brown is that leader,” said Pastor Carter.

Her leadership is essential for the continued progress and innovation within the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Brown is the first African American sheriff in Dallas County history. First appointed by Dallas County Commissioners, Sheriff Brown went on to be elected by voters in 2018 and re-elected in 2020. She is seeking her second full term in the 2024 election cycle. During Sheriff Brown’s tenure, the county jail system has successfully passed inspection. Brown also secured Certified by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. She began a series of gun buybacks in 2023 that will continue. The Dallas Morning News recommends Sheriff Brown in the Democratic Primary, noting her able management of the department, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
