Mayor Johnson to attend President Biden’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday

Mayor Eric Johnson

DALLAS — Mayor Eric Johnson on Tuesday will travel to Washington, D.C. to attend the President’s State of the Union Address in person.

President Joe Biden will deliver the annual televised speech before a joint session of Congress at 8 p.m. CST Tuesday.

Mayor Johnson will be attending as an invited guest of U.S. Rep. Lance Gooden (R-Texas).

“I want to thank Congressman Gooden for inviting me to attend the State of the Union Address and for his continuing partnership on issues that affect our mutual constituents,” Mayor Johnson said. “And I am deeply honored to have this opportunity to represent the people of Dallas in Washington as President Biden addresses the nation.”

The visit to Washington for Mayor Johnson, who was elected as the city’s 60th mayor in 2019, comes as Dallas has emerged as a national economic leader in recent years. The city led the nation’s economic recovery after the pandemic, according to Moody’s Analytics. In 2022, the U.S. Travel Association called Dallas America’s “Comeback City.” And recently released data shows that the Dallas region outpaced the national average in job growth for 2022, creating more jobs last year than 46 states.

Mayor Johnson plans to return to Dallas on Wednesday afternoon, meaning he will not be able to attend the scheduled Dallas City Council agenda meeting that day.
