The Sound Of 50: As America Marks 250 Years, Dallas Celebrates a Voice That Helped Shaped 50 Years of Modern Faith Sunday, national leaders, cultural voices, acclaimed artists and faith leaders will convene in North Texas to celebrate Bishop T.D. Jakes’ five-decade impact—a ministry born in the nation’s Bicentennial era that helped carry faith into culture, civic life, enterprise and generations of leadership, and continues to shape those carrying its legacy forward.
North Texas audiences and viewers everywhere are invited to attend or stream The Sound of 50, a live, multi-generational celebration of Bishop T.D. Jakes’ influence across faith, culture, entertainment, leadership, economic empowerment and community life. The service begins at 9:00 a.m. CT at The Potter’s House in Dallas; doors open at 7:45 a.m. CT, and the program will stream on The Potter’s House official website and official YouTube channels. Fifty years ago, this month, Bishop Jakes began preaching as a 19-year-old in West Virginia. In the decades since, the Dallas-based leader has built a platform whose reach extends from a multicultural congregation and global broadcasts to bestselling books, leadership forums, gospel music, film and television storytelling. His work has helped bring faith-based stories to mainstream entertainment while connecting faith with conversations about race, leadership, entrepreneurship and the nation’s civic life. “The Sound of 50” will be a living record of influence: a gathering of public servants, entertainment figures, ministry leaders, business leaders, celebrities and thousands of people whose lives and careers have been shaped by Bishop Jakes’ teaching, training and mentorship. Through a celebration of the decades, the program will examine how his vision has intersected with—and helped inspire—change in North Texas, across the nation and around the world. The event also signals Bishop Jakes’ next chapter. As he transitions from his full-time, day-to-day pastoral role, he is directing even greater energy toward the T.D. Jakes Group and investments in the next generation. That longstanding commitment to “throwing back the ladder” is reflected in community-focused work that includes mixed-income housing development, grocery access, entrepreneur training, access to capital and technology education.
