Joe Young of Joe Young Entertainment and Dr. Walter Milton Jr. of Black History 365 (BH365) are on a mission, and they won’t let anti-DEI efforts and attempts to erase Black history thwart their work or distract them from educating the masses. During a visit to Dallas last week, Young and his team gathered with Milton and his team to introduce Kemet and announce the launch of the new book, KEMET: The Time Traveler. KEMET: The Time Traveler is a dynamic comic book series that empowers young audiences by bring Kemet was created to help young people discover Black history in a way that’s exciting, entertaining, and relevant to them,” said Joe Young, creator and writer of Kemet: The Time Traveler. “Our collaboration with Dr. Walter Milton and BH365 allows us to put these stories into the hands and imaginations of children across the country. Black History 365 is an MBE-certified educational entity that creates cutting-edge resources that invite students, educators, and other readers to become critical thinkers, compassionate listeners, fact-based, respectful communicators, and action-oriented solutionists. The BH365 curriculum is in 34 states, 10,000 classrooms, 1000 US cities, and 420 Districts. According to Dr. Milton, BH365® is an interactive history textbook, a comprehensive K-12 curriculum for use independently or as supplemental text, and includes instructor resources such as curriculum planning guides, instructional tools, family and community engagement and restorative/ wellness activities, audio/visual supplements, and electronic assessments. Milton, a native of Rochester, New York, is a proud product of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. He holds a Doctorate of Education degree in leadership and policy from the University of Buffalo. Dr. Milton began his career in education in 1991 as a junior high school teacher for the Webster Central School District in Webster, New York, then moved into several administrative roles before serving as superintendent in several districts. Also a patented inventor, he is a published author of Parents Perception of Schools and Schools Perception of Parents, (2006), Me in the Making – One Man’s Journey to Becoming a School Superintendent (2008), Why Black Men Must Save Black Boys in America’s Public Schools (2014), Truth Be Told-Narratives from The Souls of Black Women (2018) and Black History 365-An Inclusive Account of American History (2020). BH365 was birthed from his passion for history and a traumatic 4th-grade classroom experience with his teacher attempting to teach Black history. He encourages students to become critical thinkers who are compassionate, respectful, and action-oriented. Books, calendars, and merchandise complement and celebrate the Black experience. All that energy showed up during an hour-long session with representatives from BH365 and Joe Young Entertainment. With the appearance of Kemet, the mascot, and other elements, more youth and adults are drawn into the learning experience. Creator Joe Young provides youth activity sheets for entire families, offering history lessons and tools to educate, enlighten, inform, and inspire. Joe is an award-winning artist, writer, and producer. He created the KEMET comic property.
