Doris Bailey Horton peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on February 20, 1949, in Dallas, Texas, Doris was raised in the Bear Creek Community of West Irving. She was the beloved daughter of Rudolph Bailey Sr. and Beatrice Sweat Bailey and grew up surrounded by the love, activity, and companionship of a large family.
As one of many siblings, Doris learned the importance of hard work, responsibility, and family at an early age. During her childhood and teenage years, she dedicated herself to excelling academically while also helping raise horses, train dogs, milk cows, and care for chickens alongside her siblings. In high school, Doris participated in multiple sports and was honored as prom queen at J.O. Davis High School during her senior year, receiving the votes and admiration of both her teachers and peers.
A Legacy Rooted in Faith
Doris built her identity and her life upon the solid rock of Jesus Christ. Although she never claimed to be perfect, she persevered in faith and remained anchored in her relationship with God. She faithfully continued her spiritual race until she was called home to be with her true Bridegroom, Jesus Christ. Her faith was demonstrated not only through her words but also through the way she lived, loved, served, prayed, and cared for others. Doris was a faithful servant of Christ who served as an usher and operated in her spiritual gifts, including teaching the Word of God and participating in deliverance ministry. She was an active member of the local body of Christ and devoted her time, resources, and energy to sharing and advancing the Gospel. Doris loved her family deeply, served her community faithfully, and was never hesitant to pray for others or share the message of Jesus Christ.
Family and Generational Legacy
Doris’s greatest earthly legacy lives on through her children, Dimitri, Charlie, Jermaine, and Danika, and through the generations of family members who were blessed to know and love her. Her grandchildren include: Michael, affectionately known as “Mikey”; Madison; Jaila; Jordan; Jermani, affectionately known as “Money”; Janiah; Jackson; Journey; Jahir; Justice; Jada; Aaliyah; Adrian; Lyriq and Amariah. Doris was also blessed to witness the continuation of her family into a fourth generation through her great-grandchildren: Arrow and Array, children of Mikey; Da’Carii, son of Adrian. Her family was the center of her life, and she found great joy in watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow. Her strength, wisdom, faith, laughter, and determination will continue to live through them.
Career and Professional Life
Doris was passionate about her career and demonstrated exceptional skills, dedication, and professionalism throughout her years of employment. She held various positions with respected companies, including Texas Instruments, Bell Helicopter, LTV, Square D, and Siemens. She was highly regarded by her coworkers for her strong work ethic and her ability to relate to people from all walks of life. Doris was known for praying for her colleagues, caring for those around her, sharing her beautiful smile and unforgettable laugh, and boldly witnessing for Christ by sharing the Gospel. She did not simply report to work each day; she brought encouragement, compassion, excellence, and faith into every workplace she entered.
Friendships
Doris was blessed with meaningful friendships that endured through many seasons of her life. Her longtime friend Brenda Holmes shared a special bond with Doris that began during their high school years. They were often together, participating in sports and enjoying life as young women. Mary Lou, a fellow sister in Christ, remained one of Doris’s closest and most treasured friends through every season of life. Sister Warfield, also a beloved sister in Christ, became a close companion who walked alongside Doris and enjoyed many outings and memorable experiences with her during what Doris fondly embraced as her “Golden Grandmother” years. These friendships brought joy, fellowship, encouragement, and companionship into Doris’s life.
The Things She Enjoyed
Doris knew how to enjoy life. She loved watching football, attending drag races, horseback riding, and going to horse races. She also occasionally enjoyed visiting the casino and trying her luck at hitting one of those “good ol’ miniature jackpots.” Her vibrant personality, sense of humor, warm smile, and joyful laugh made even ordinary moments memorable.
Her Beloved Parents and Siblings
Doris was preceded in death by her parents: Rudolph Bailey Sr. and Beatrice Sweat Bailey; Siblings: Viola Bernice, Rudolph Jr., Mary, Velva Jean, Girtha, Wade and Tommy. She leaves to cherish her memory, for now but not forever, her beloved siblings: William, Joyce, Alfred, Robert, Sandra, and Randy. The love and memories shared among Doris and her siblings will forever remain a treasured part of the Bailey family story.
Her Legacy Continues
Doris’s legacy will continue through the families of Dimitri Howard, Charlie Howard, Jermaine Leslie, Danika Wooderts and Michael Isom; along with the many relatives, friends, church family members, coworkers, and loved ones whose lives she touched. Those who loved Doris will continue to honor her by living with faith, loving their families, serving others, persevering through life’s challenges, and boldly standing for Jesus Christ. Doris Bailey Horton lived a life marked by faith, family, service, strength, laughter, and love. Though her physical presence will be deeply missed, her influence will remain in the hearts and lives of all who knew her. Her race is finished. Her faith has been kept. Her legacy will live on.
