Darryl Wayne Smith was born on August 10, 1960, to Dorothy McCoy in Karnack, Texas. He peacefully transitioned into the Lord’s arms on June 22, 2026, in Dallas, Texas, surrounded by his loving family.

Darryl was raised in Dallas and graduated from Wilmer-Hutchins High School in 1978. He continued his education at DeVry University, where he earned a degree in Telecommunications. He went on to build a successful career as a Telecommunications Manager at Nortel Networks, retiring in 2012 after years of dedicated service.

As a young man, Darryl attended Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church with his family. Later in life, he became a servant of Bethel Temple Pentecostal Church, where he enjoyed working with the youth ministry.

Darryl was known for his warm smile that could light up any room. He loved spending time with family and friends and was often the one organizing gatherings and making sure everyone had a wonderful time. As an active member of the Wilmer-Hutchins High School Class of 1978 committee, he cherished reconnecting with classmates and helping bring people together. Whether hosting family reunions or grilling while cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, Darryl made sure there was always plenty of food, laughter, and fellowship.

Above all, Darryl was devoted to his family. He was married to Cynthia (Hollins} Smith and together they were blessed with two children, his daughter, Darchelle Smith, and his son, Darnell Smith. He often spoke with great pride about his children and cherished every moment spent with them. His beloved grandson, Kapten Smith, was the joy of his life and held a special place in his heart. Darryl loved his family deeply, and his unwavering devotion, guidance, and love will forever remain in their hearts.

Darryl was a hardworking, strong, and resilient man who exemplified perseverance through life’s challenges. No matter what he was facing, he never gave up. Even on difficult days, he would greet you with his signature smile and reassure you that he was okay—a reflection of his strength, faith, and selfless spirit.

Darryl was preceded in death by his stepfather, James McCoy, and his brothers, Grandful (Dennis) Smith and Andrew Smith.

Those left to cherish his precious memory include his loving mother, Dorothy McCoy; his daughter, Darchelle Smith; his son, Darnell Smith (Georgina); his beloved grandson, Kapten Smith; his sisters, Deborah (Smith) McCarley and June (McCoy) Mitchell; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
