SWAC football is on the cusp of coming back to Birmingham.
According to a report by AL.com, city leaders approved the city hosting multiple SWAC football games at Legion Field.
The games, according to the report, will be held on Aug. 26 and then at some point in 2027.
The announcement comes on the heels of the city previously hosting the SWAC Classic, which began in 2022 and featured Jackson State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Southern.
The City of Birmingham provided incentives and in-kind services to SWAC in an amount not to exceed $200,000 in year one and $300,000 in years two and three of the agreement, in which the game is played at Legion Field Stadium.
Legion Field was the one-time home of the SWAC Football Championship Game from 1999 to 2012.
