Local law firm donates $10,000 to Fort Worth ISD Family Action Center for annual event featuring coats, photos with Santa, food, and holiday activities

DALLAS, December 1, 2025 – 1-800TruckWreck, powered by Witherite Law Group, is once again partnering with Fort Worth ISD and K104 FM for the annual “Coats for Kids” giveaway, providing much-needed winter coats to students across the district. The 2025 event will take place on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fort Worth Family Action Center, 5500 Norris St., Fort Worth, TX 76119.
Local vendors will supply food, holiday music, photos with Santa, and family-friendly activities. A total of 450 coats will be distributed to youth and young adults in grades pre-K to 12.
Fort Worth’s poverty rate remains higher than the national average, leaving many families without the financial flexibility to purchase essential winter clothing. For households already struggling to cover rising costs for food, housing, and transportation, items like warm coats often fall out of reach. As temperatures in North Texas continue to fluctuate sharply during the winter months, the lack of proper outerwear can put children at increased risk during their daily commutes to and from school. The “Coats for Kids” initiative helps fill this critical gap by ensuring students have the protection they need throughout the season.
“Donating coats each year is more than an act of kindness—it’s a lifeline for many of our students who simply don’t have access to warm clothing during the coldest months,” said Dr. Carlos Walker, director of the Fort Worth ISD Family Action Center and board member for Fort Worth Housing Solutions. “Our mission is to remove barriers that prevent students and families from thriving, and partnerships like the one we have with 1-800TruckWreck make that mission possible. Their consistent commitment allows us to meet real needs in our community and ensure our children can focus on learning without worrying about necessities like staying warm.”
North Texas winters have become increasingly unpredictable in recent years, with abrupt temperature drops, freezing wind chills and extended cold fronts creating dangerous conditions for children without proper outerwear. Many families in the community struggle to afford winter essentials, making warm, durable coats a critical resource for students walking to school, waiting at bus stops or participating in outdoor activities. The “Coats for Kids” initiative helps close that gap by ensuring children have the protection they need throughout the cold-weather season.
“Every winter, we see how quickly temperatures in North Texas can drop, and no child should have to face that cold without a warm coat,” said Amy Witherite, founder of Witherite Law Group and owner of 1-800TruckWreck. “With the rising cost of everyday essentials, many families are forced to make difficult choices, and a warm coat simply isn’t something everyone can afford. Providing coats is one small way we can help bridge that gap, and it’s a responsibility we take to heart. With the continued support of our partners, we’re committed to showing up for this community year after year and making sure children have what they need to stay safe, warm and supported.”
The firm also provided turkeys and grocery gift cards to thousands of Dallas–Fort Worth residents as part of one of the metroplex’s largest Thanksgiving food giveaways and contributed $40,000 to local food pantries to help families facing rising food costs.
