Superb Woman: DR. BRENDA ROSS SWILLEY

Dr. Brenda Ross Swilley, a native of Louisiana now residing in Mansfield, Texas, has a Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington, her M.S.N. in Health Care Education from the University of Phoenix, and her B.S.N. from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Louisiana. She has over 32 years of nursing experience, specializing in occupational, environmental health, and public health nursing. In 2020, she retired after 20 years of service in the United States Public Health Service, holding the Rank of Captain (O6). As a Public Health Nurse Executive, Dr. Ross Swilley provided strategic leadership and oversight of health programs, policies, and initiatives to ensure the well-being of the federal employee population while fostering health equality and workplace compliance standards. As Assistant Professor of Nursing at Texas Woman’s University, Dr. Ross Swilley has conducted research related to smoking cessation within the federal employee population. Her current research program focuses on vaping prevention among teens in the Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP). She has published and presented her research findings throughout the United States. Dr. Ross Swilley is an active member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Fort Worth Metropolitan Chapter, and is also a member of several professional nursing organizations.
