The new executive director for one of the premiere healthcare delivery non-profits in North Texas is a veteran fundraiser, and community organizer born and raised in Fort Worth.
Dr. Rod Smith, who headed the United Way of Johnson County for more than a decade, said that he was “thrilled” to lead the Muslim
Community Center for Human Services (MCC) in Richland Hills, Texas. Dr. Smith was chosen to lead MCC in August of this year.
“In its twenty-five year history MCC has provided health and dental care to thousands of North Texas residents without regard to their ethnicity, their faith or their ability to pay,” said Dr. Smith who earned a doctorate in psychology from Kansas State University.
“I have always had a passion to help organizations like MCC to achieve their strategic goals,” said Dr. Smith who has raised millions of dollars for public institutions that benefit underserved populations.
The chairperson of MCC’s board of directors, Sameer Ahmed, said that Dr. Smith was chosen from more than fifty applicants because of his vast non-profit experience and his drive to assist others.
“We were looking for someone with a deep knowledge of the community and an intense interest in service. We found both in Dr. Smith,” Mr. Ahmed said.
Founded by retired UT Southwestern clinical psychiatrist Dr. Basheer Ahmed, MCC’s services include domestic abuse and psychiatric counseling for families and individuals.
